12 Steps to Winning in the Courts of Heaven for Beginners

This post is all about courts of heaven

Are you going through difficulties and feel you are at your wit’s end?

When we are faced with trials on this earth, it is often hard to see how things could possibly work out for us. We may feel we are up against insurmountable odds and don’t have a chance.

But did you know that there is another realm where justice can be found? This realm is known as the courts of heaven.

In this post, we will explore the courts of heaven and how they operate. However, I will be doing this in a very easy beginner-friendly way!

Ready to be motivated? Let’s go…

My personal connection…

So, this post has been sitting in my drafts for the past few weeks. I had poured out my heart onto it, then decided to take a break because it involves a lot of intricate details. I honestly wanted to ensure that the post was very systematic and beginner-friendly as possible. So, it was essential to keep on, so I powered through and finally finished writing this.🎉

This is a topic that’s dear to me because God started revealing this to me a few years ago, and then he revisited it a few weeks ago. I realized that a lot of the information out there was really complex. So, I asked the Holy Spirit’s guidance to break this down. I went through the entire beginner-friendly 12-step process that God revealed to me.

I know this is a “now” word for many people and me. If this word is for you, just know that God loves you!

Spiritual law and jurisdiction

Everyone knows about Ephesians 6. It’s a very popular chapter quoted in terms of spiritual warfare. This chapter is totally relevant to understanding the courts of heaven.

Let me explain…there is a spiritual war. Some call it light vs. dark. However, Ephesians 6;12 spells it out in detail by saying, “ For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Spiritual law

So knowing that there is a war in the spiritual realm, spiritual law is the law that governs the spiritual realm. It is different from the laws that govern the physical world. Spiritual law is eternal and unchanging, while the laws of the earth are constantly changing. It is also higher than the laws that we currently have; it is the law that governs our relationship with God.

Spiritual jurisdiction

This is the authority that believers have over the spiritual realm. We have spiritual authority because we are children of God and joint-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17).

In Matthew 10, we are also told of instructions given to the disciples which apply to us as well:

As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

Mathew 10:7-8

However, our spiritual authority is not unlimited; there are spiritual laws that limit our authority. For example, we cannot pray for someone to be healed if they do not have faith (Matthew 9:29 & Matthew 5:34).

Also, some people are anointed to enter or access different spiritual realms. You can say that they have more jurisdiction based on their anointing.

Know that you understand that, the enemy goes to court knowing the whole entire spiritual law. (like front to back). In short- the enemy uses spiritual law to enforce his ways. The enemy is the accuser of the brethren, and he uses spiritual law to accuse us before God (Revelation 12:10). But we need not fear him; we have the spiritual armor of God that protects us from his attacks (Ephesians 6) and as you find later, we will not be alone once we enter the courts of heaven.

So we need to understand the magnitude of entering the courts of heaven- we are waging a spiritual war against the enemy!

So, what is the authority of a believer?

When Jesus said, “I have given you authority” in Luke 10:19, He gave us the authority to use our free will for His glory.

With the authority we have been given, we sometimes fail to remember that to use our free will for His glory. This is where we use our freedom negatively outside of the true freedom God has for us. When one lives in perpetual sin without repentance, we can frustrate grace and give the enemy a legal ground to enslave us. This is why obeying God’s laws and living in righteousness are essential.

How the enemy puts people in bondage…

Per what I stated earlier, spiritual law and jurisdiction are two things that the enemy uses to enslave people.

Sin, soul ties, generation curses, and evil altars can all be used by the enemy to keep us in bondage.

But there is hope! The courts of heaven can help us break free from these things that the enemy has been using against us.

However, when we don’t know how to stand in the courts of heaven and present our cases, the enemy will take advantage of us. He knows the spiritual laws and how to work the system against us. But, don’t fret, we have a powerful advocate – Jesus Christ – who has already paid the price for our salvation. (Hebrews 12:24)

My dream of the devil (the accuser)

Over 10 years ago, I had a dream that Jesus was about to give me a gift. I was so excited, and I started to rejoice. My rejoicing was cut short when I heard a wicked cynical voice say in Swahili, “But she hasn’t forgiven them.”

I woke up in tears from that vivid dream. All could literally feel (yes feel!) and hear was that cynical voice.

Friends, I cried even more when I realized that unforgiveness had become a legal ground that the enemy was using against me in the courts of heaven.

So, you know what I did? I called those who had wronged me! Forgiveness was on my mind, and I did my part to release them from their guilt. Did they sincerely receive my call? I will never know; all I knew was that I was making the right choice for me and my destiny.

Immediately after that, God blessed me with receiving the dream job I was praying for.

So, my question is- what is the enemy using as a legal ground against you?

(Read Revelation 12:10, which refers to the enemy as an accuser of the brethren)

Earthly courts are modeled after courts in heaven

Many people think that courts on earth are just human institutions. However, the reality is that courts on earth are modeled after heaven courts.

In the Bible, we see that God is a righteous judge (Psalm 96:13 & Psalm 7:11) and that Jesus is our advocate (1 John 2:1). We also see that the devil is the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10) and that there is spiritual law and jurisdiction. Looks like a court right?

The courts of heaven are a very real place where cases are heard, and verdicts are given. Just as we go to earthly courts to have our cases heard, we can also go to the courts of heaven. The courts of heaven are a place of justice, where wrongs can be righted and where we can receive help and breakthrough in our lives.

How the courts of heaven work…

Now that you know that earthly courts are modeled after heavenly courts. You just need to know that the courts of heaven work Just like an earthly court (but courts of heaven are far much superior).

To reiterate (guys this is super important!): The devil brings charges against us in these courts. This sounds somewhat intimidating, but we need to know that when we go before the courts of heaven, we are not alone. We have the best legal team around, plus a super awesome Judge!

The 12 steps to presenting your case in the courts of heaven are

courts of heaven for beginners

Overview of the 12 steps

Phase 1

This is where you do all the pre-work or “paperwork.” You prepare yourself for what is ahead. That means you need to know how you can access the court. Also, how to file your case.

1. Repenting

2. Claiming the blood and on the finished work of Christ

3. Renunciation of any evil altars or soul ties

4. Serving a restraining order to the enemy

5. Filing a case to the righteous judge

Phase 2

This is the maintenance phase that honestly should take place at any time. However, it’s an essential step, especially in terms of Spiritual warfare.

6. Pray

7. Fast

8. Give/Sow

Phase 3

At this phase, there is a lot of boldness and faith involved. We also await the physical manifestation of the verdict.

9. The courts are seated

10. Presenting your case boldly before a witness

11. Believing that the issue has been ruled in your favor

12. Keep declaring physical manifestation of your victory & Live a Holy life

Here’s the step-by-step breakdown of winning in the courts of heaven:

Phase One:

1. Repenting & Confession

This is the first step because it sets the foundation for everything else (see Acts 26:20). We must also confess our sins to God and agree with Him that they are wrong. This is important because it shows that we are willing to take responsibility for our actions and make things right. (see Mark 11:25-26 , Acts 26:20) & (1 John 1:8-9)

2. Claiming the blood of Jesus over your situation.

We must claim the shed blood of Jesus Christ over our lives. This step is important because it applies the finished work of the cross to our situation. It also gives us access to all the benefits available to us through Christ’s sacrifice. When we repent of our sin and ask Jesus to be our Lord and Savior, He pays the price for our salvation by His shed blood on the cross. This act wipes away our sins and gives us a clean slate before God. Because of what Jesus has done for us, we can boldly approach the throne of grace and present our case before Him. (See Revelation 12:11)

3. Renounce any evil altars or soul ties

Renounce any evil altars or soul ties that may hinder your prayers from being answered. (See Deuteronomy 12:3) We must renounce any agreement we have made with the enemy. This step is crucial because it breaks the legal right that the enemy has to oppose us in court. It also shows our commitment to God and His righteousness.

4. Serving a restraining order to the enemy.

Merriam Webster defines a restraining order as follows:

A legal order issued against an individual to restrict or prohibit access or proximity to another specified individual. This is declaring war against the enemy and telling him he has no power over you or your situation.

Merriam-Webster

So that’s exactly what we are doing. We are asking God to restrain the enemy. I imagine the angels as sheriffs going to the enemy and serving them with these orders. (I know my imagination is active, LOL)

5. Filing a case to the righteous judge

This is asking God to intervene on your behalf and give you justice.

Phase Two:

6. Pray

Praying is talking to God and asking Him to intervene in your situation. We must pray continually, lifting up our requests to God. (See 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

If you want to learn more, read this post that I wrote about how to develop a consistent prayer life.

7. Fast

Fasting is denying yourself something pleasurable for a period of time so that you can focus on prayer and seeking God’s face.

If you want to learn more, read this post that I wrote about how to fast and pray for a breakthrough.

8. Giving

Giving is giving an offering or sacrifice to God as a sign of your faith and obedience. (See Psalm 50:14-15)

Phase Three:

9. The courts are seated

Here, the courts assemble. You can ask God to give you wisdom and understanding as you present your case. (Daniel 7:10)

10. Present your case

Present your case boldly before a witness and declare your faith and trust in God. This is essentially declaring war against the enemy and all of his works. This step is important because it shows our determination to stand firm against the enemy and take back what he has stolen from us. It also puts us in a position of strength and authority over him… because of what Jesus has done for us, we can boldly approach the throne of grace and present our case before Him (See Romans 8:16).

11. Believe you are victorious

Believing that the issue has been ruled in your favor is having confidence that God will give you the victory. (John 8:10-11)

12. Declare your victory & Live a Holy Life

Keep declaring the physical manifestation of your victory. Do this by speaking life over your situation and believing God will bring it to pass.

Also, live a holy life – We must live according to God’s standards, not the world. (Romans 12:2) You don’t want the enemy to gain legal ground because of your disobedience.

And that’s it, folks, Courts of Heaven for Beginners

Now that you have read my introductory or beginner-friendly post, I know you may be interested in doing a deep dive. I want to recommend reading the books or applicable material by Robert Henderson, Dutch Sheets, and Francis Myles. When I began my quest to go into the courts of heaven, they planted subtle seeds via short interviews I watched online. This stirred something in my Spirit to be able to research and get my own revelation.

  2. Thanks to the writer of this article. I got more insight of the courts of heaven. I was praying to God for mercy against every evil that has been done against me. Then there was a whisper in my spirit to take the case to the court of heaven. People have laid accusation on me of how I didn’t involved them in my wedding and I think it was taken to the spiritual realm. I have been waiting to have children after 6 years of marriage and kept seeing a particular set of people in my dream always accusing me and angry with me. I had gone to apologize in 6 occasions to them with my husband. But I think they are still laying accusation and I have decided to take them to the courts of heaven.

    • Hello Tomi, Thank you so much for sharing what is going on. The good news is that we have a righteous Judge, and once you take your case up to this Ultimate court, things shift. I’ve multiple testimonies tied to the Courts of Heaven and using Scripture to back up the case. I pray that the Holy Spirit continues to guide you until your physical manifestation of Victory! Blessings, Heather

  3. Thank you so much for writing this post! It come in a good timing! I have some difficulty understanding step 10 regarding present your case. When I present my case before a witness, do I need to find a real person on the earth to be my witness? Like do I need to actually find a brother or sister from my church to be my witness.

    • Hello! This is a great question!

In Hebrews 12:1, it speaks of a “great cloud of witnesses” who have gone before us and now stand as examples for us to follow. These believers (and their lives) serve as a testimony to us of God’s faithfulness.

In addition to these spiritual witnesses, we are also told in Romans 8:16 that “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” This refers to the Holy Spirit living within us as believers, who testifies to our identity as God’s children. This is an important reminder that we don’t need a physical witness to validate our faith or connection with God.

So yes, you don’t really need a physical witness…However, it is worth noting that if we are feeling uncertain in our faith or going through a difficult time, it can be beneficial to have a trusted person who can touch and agree with us in prayer or provide encouragement from their own experiences can be a source of strength and confirmation in our spiritual journey.

When I went to the courts of heaven, I shared it with my sister who is also my prayer partner 😊

May the Lord bless you as you walk in victory!
