Hello Friends,
Today, I want to share with you three interesting stories from my own life—real experiences that have touched me deeply and shaped the way I see the world. After these stories, I’ll leave you with a reflection that I hope will challenge and inspire you to look beyond the immediate, beyond what is visible to the naked eye. I believe these stories will renew and refresh those who feel weary in this season.
The stories are as follows:
- My Encounter with a Wild Dog in East Africa (as a Child!)
- My Tire Burst on Rural Route VA 29
- The Homeless Man with a “Turning Point” Message
Ready? Let’s go!
My Encounter with a Wild Dog in East Africa (as a Child!)
It was circa 1994 on our family farm in the Rift Valley. It was a super cold morning, and since there was no internal heating (or electricity, for that matter), we were already bundled up in warm coats and gumboots (rubber boots) as we ate breakfast before we began farm work.
We sat by the farmhouse table, and Mom urged us to get second helpings for breakfast. Suddenly, we were startled by the milkman running and shouting in our local dialect. This man was in sheer panic. He stated that another cow had fallen prey to the wild dogs (commonly known as T9 by locals). My mom, who loved her farm animals, rushed with my dad to inspect what happened. When they returned, they told us to be on high alert and to walk with adults instead of our usual wandering on the farm.
I honestly forgot their warning (I was quite the dreamer), and later that day, after farm work, I wandered home alone. I tried to open the farmhouse door, but it was locked. This was when I heard the cry of a wild dog behind the house. I froze in fear for what seemed to be an eternity! I then heard a voice say with authority, “Run,” and I did. I went from freeze to full on flight! I never told my parents or anyone else what happened. I guess I didn’t want to make them more worried, or maybe I was afraid they would scold me. But I always remembered that day very clearly.
Over the years, I wondered why the wild dog never attacked. Why do I say this? African wild dogs are known for their hunting ability, ferocity and cunning tactics, making them a formidable threat to not only livestock but also humans, especially when they are running in a pack. There was absolutely nothing that was physically preventing this wild dog from getting to me. However, after reading scripture, is it possible that there was an invisible barrier (a literal hedge of fire) preventing it from accessing me? Another question I ask myself… who or what was that voice that told me to “run?”
My Tire Burst on Rural Route VA 29
When I was in college in rural Virginia, money was really tight. Everything I had went into my studies and paying for the basics. I went to do an oil change, and I told my mechanic I was going up north on a solo road trip. My mechanic looked at me bewildered and told me my car’s tires were in bad shape—like, really bad, with no tread left—I kind of just nodded and didn’t do much about it. All I could think about was saving up to visit my childhood friend in Maryland. It had been ages since we’d seen each other, and that trip meant everything to me.
Ignoring the mechanic’s advice, I decided to make the nearly 5-hour drive to Maryland. I made it there safely, and I figured if I drove back carefully, everything would be fine. However, I encountered a problem on my way back when I was cruising along a rural part of Route 29 where cars wouldn’t pass that often. So you already know what happened…my tire burst. It was the scariest thing, hearing that loud pop and feeling the car jerk. I managed to pull over, heart racing, on a stretch of road that felt like the middle of nowhere.
I barely had time to process everything when a truck pulled up behind me (from nowhere). A man got out, walking over with a jack in his hand as if he’d shown up just to help me. Without even asking if I needed help, he simply said, “Looks like you need a tire change,” and got straight to work. I was so grateful but also kind of embarrassed that I had ignored the mechanic’s warning.
When he finished, I asked him how I could repay him for his kindness. I wasn’t used to strangers going out of their way like that, especially not for someone who had made a pretty silly decision. But he wouldn’t take anything. Instead, he just reminded me to get my tires replaced soon. “Make sure you change them as soon as you get home,” he said. It was a simple message, but coming from him, after what he’d just done for me, it felt significant.
Friends, it’s been 17 years, but that experience stayed with me, not just because of the burst tire or the unexpected help, but because this was a rural part of the road (nobody was behind me as I drove along the stretch), and I didn’t even spend hardly a minute digesting what happened when this man appeared with a jack in his hand! Plus, I honestly don’t even know how to change a tire!!! LOL. Goodness. Was that an angel? You tell me.
The Homeless Man with a “Turning Point” Message
Last year, I found myself deeply immersed in a season of prayer. There were things in my life that I had been asking God about for ages, things that seemed so out of reach they might as well have been on the moon. These weren’t small asks; they were the kind that could easily be labeled ‘impossible’ by anyone looking in from the outside.
One day, during this season, I had to run some errands in the city. Not surprisingly, I ended up stuck in traffic. That’s city life for you. While I was there, just waiting and listening to the radio, I noticed a homeless man on the side of the road. He was impossible to miss, really—standing at a towering over 6ft from my estimation, with an aura of strength despite his circumstances.
Something about him caught my attention, and I felt this strong urge to give him some money. I didn’t have much on me, just a little cash, but it felt right to offer it to him. When I did, I apologized for the small amount, hoping it would still be a blessing for him. His response was unexpected. “Things are about to change,” he said, not as a question or a hope, but as a firm statement.
I tried to laugh it off. It was a weird thing to say, and laughter seemed like the easiest way to brush it aside. But inside, I felt something stirring. It wasn’t fear, exactly, but it was powerful—like a wake-up call. I immediately texted my sister about the encounter. Half-joking, half-serious, I told her about how the Bible talks about entertaining angels unaware. I couldn’t shake the feeling that maybe I had just had one of those moments myself.
Soon after the encounter, we were moving again (yay, green lights!), and my phone rang. The caller I.D. showed it was important, so I pulled over at the first safe place I found, which happened to be a church parking lot. The call was the kind you hope for but never really expect to receive. It was the news I had been praying about for ten long years. Good news. The kind of news that makes your knees weak and your eyes fill with tears. Overwhelmed, I cried right there in my car. My prayer had been answered!
Once I managed to collect myself, I looked up at the Church where I had stopped. Etched on its sign was the name “Turning Point” Church. If that wasn’t a sign, I don’t know what is. And true enough, that week marked a significant turn in my life. Three more of my prayers were answered, each one affirming the message of change delivered by the homeless man in traffic.
Looking back, it’s clear that the moment in traffic wasn’t just a random act of kindness. It was a pivotal point, a clear message that sometimes, the answers we seek are already on their way and our acts of faith—no matter how small—can usher them in.
And yes, I believe 100% that was indeed an angel!
Is It All Rubbish, Luck, or Both?
Some might read the stories I’ve shared and dismiss them, labeling them as mere coincidences or chalk it up to “luck.” It’s understandable—everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and skepticism is a natural response for many. However, I personally don’t subscribe to the notion of luck. My experiences have led me to see beyond such explanations.
If you have grown up sensitive in the spirit, you can discern when God divinely orders some experiences. They are “the rhythms of God-works“ and can be discerned only when we recognize patterns, kairos-moments, and interventions that seem too perfectly aligned to be mere accidents. This sensitivity allows us to perceive when certain experiences are not just random occurrences but are, instead, orchestrated by a higher power—in this case, Elohim!
Get a statistician to crunch the numbers of all the miraculous things you have experienced. They will say, “The odds of this happening purely by chance are astronomically low,” “It’s mathematically impossible,” OR “The odds are 0.000000000001.” Friends, it’s one thing to have a fortunate event happen once in a while, but when there’s a clear pattern of such incidents, it prompts us to look for an explanation beyond luck or coincidence. In my view, attributing these alignments to the “universe” or “good karma” falls short of explaining the complexity and specificity of these experiences.
I firmly believe that God works in such profound ways. As the Alpha and Omega, He exists outside of time and space, holding the unique ability to orchestrate events of great magnitude and personal significance with precision. God’s omnipresence also enables Him to move in our lives in ways that defy human logic and understanding. It’s His nature to care deeply about the details of our lives, guiding us through both the challenges and joys. This guidance isn’t random; it’s the result of a loving, purposeful intention from a God who desires the best for His creation.
In holding this view, I’m not dismissing the opinions or beliefs of others but rather sharing the foundation of my own faith and understanding. Recognizing God’s hand in the tapestry of our lives invites us to live in a state of gratitude and openness to the divine workings around us, far beyond what we can see or comprehend fully.
And that’s it, folks- Life is Spiritual
I’ve shared these stories with you to open your heart to the profound reality that we are part of a spiritual world, or as it’s often said, life is spiritual. It’s easy to get caught up in the tangible, the immediate, and forget that there’s so much more happening beyond what our eyes can see. Just like in my stories, where unexpected help and answers came in a moment of need, so too might you be on the cusp of seeing the physical manifestation of unseen forces at work in your life.
If you’re going through a hard time, feeling like every turn leads to another uphill battle, I pray for you as Elisha prayed: “O Lord, open their eyes, that they may see.”
2 Kings 6:17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
Friends, there’s a bigger picture, a grander plan that we’re all a part of. I pray that your eyes will be opened to see not just the challenges in front of you but also the hand of God moving, arranging, and realigning things in your favor.
Pause and think: It’s a comforting thought, really, that we’re not alone, that God is for us, not against us. Sometimes, all it takes is a small shift in perspective, a tiny leap of faith to recognize that support. May you find the courage to believe in that which you cannot see and trust that you’re being guided, protected, and loved by our Heavenly Father—even, and especially, in your toughest moments.
P.S. I have many more juicy stories (more mind-blowing than the ones I shared), but I’ll reserve them for a book if the Lord allows me to share them in the future. In the meantime, please share this post with someone to encourage them!
P.P.S This Spanish song has been on repeat in my night prayer sessions! Turn on the English subtitles to understand the depth of the song!
Hugs,

Thanks for sharing your very profoundly divine experiences. I have been reading your articles for some time now, but this one touched me in a very special way. I feel an iota of encouragement by this article…
It’s very apt that you would write this very episode at a time when I am going through the toughest phase of my life. like you rightly said: it appears every turn I make leads to a more hopeless situation. As l get out of one problem, and l want to take a sigh of relief, I am hit by yet a bigger, more difficult situation.
Please pray for me! I need God’s divine intervention in my life. My life has never been this ugly and deem. Everything looks dark and I feel overwhelmed by the hopelessness and helplessness of the situations I am in.
