10 Must-Know Signs of a Jezebel Spirit: How it Operates & Tips to Overcome

This post is all about the signs of a Jezebel spirit

Looking for super detailed signs of a Jezebel spirit? Well, you are in the right place…

I believe blog posts like this one are super important as they offer much-needed information! Why? In recent years, the body of Christ has become aware of the spirit of Jezebel. Thus, there is a hunger and thirst for information.

Before I begin, know that my blog posts always start from a place of learning… so I’m not coming to you as an expert but as a peer. ❤️

Let me be honest, when I first became aware of this spirit, I was honestly frustrated because I was going through the process of untangling myself from Jezebel’s web of lies. God was faithful and continues to be faithful and merciful.

Needless to say, I come to you in humility, knowing that I understand how difficult it is to be around someone who operates under this spirit.

In this post, I aim to break things down in a beginner-friendly fashion. I will start by analyzing Jezebel and her influence on people. I will look at Elijah and Jehu’s tactics for confronting her in an effort to apply these tactics to our own lives and situations.

Ready? Let’s go…

Who was Jezebel?

Queen Jezebel was known for her manipulation and false teachings. She was a powerful woman who led Israel astray.

Here are 6 facts about Jezebel that will help you to understand her better:

  1. Jezebel was the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians. Her father was a priest of the god Baal.
  2. Jezebel herself worshiped Baal and led the people of Israel into idolatry and sacrifice. Yes, Queen Jezebel led Israel astray!
  3. Jezebel manipulated her husband. She also brought false charges against Naboth who was stoned, and thereafter Ahab took possession of the property.
  4. She was a woman who did not take kindly to anyone who threatened her position or power.
  5. She was ruthless in her pursuit of what she wanted and would stop at nothing to get it.
  6. She used her charm and deceit to avoid being killed by Jehu (The charm and deceit didn’t work. The three palace officials/ eunuchs ultimately threw her out of the window at the request of Jehu- Read 2 Kings 9:33)

P.S I recommend that you read the entire story in the Bible since there are so many details that I didn’t cover.

What is a Jezebel spirit?

When we think about the word “spirit” in relation to a human being, we can think of it as either an invisible force or essence that indwells or animates a person.

In the Hebrew or biblical language, the word “spirit” can also refer to a supernatural being, such as an angel or demon. When we think about how a spirit influences a human being, we can think of it as either positively or negatively impacting their thoughts, emotions, and behavior. Jezebel is one of the bad spirits that is spoken about in the Bible. This spirit has been known to influence people negatively.

The Jezebel spirit is named after the biblical character that I just explained about- Queen Jezebel.

Myths and misconceptions about the Jezebel spirit

There are many myths and misconceptions about the Jezebel spirit.

Let’s look at two

Myth #01: The Jezebel Spirit Is a Woman

This is one of the most common misconceptions about the Jezebel spirit. The truth is, the Jezebel spirit can manifest in anyone – male or female, young or old. It does not discriminate.

Myth #02: The Jezebel Spirit Wears Makeup and Red Lipstick

Another common myth is that the Jezebel spirit always wears heavy makeup and red lipstick. However, this is simply not true! We need to understand that the Jezebel spirit can manifest in anyone, regardless of their appearance.

Jezebel spirit in the book of Revelation

(Biblical Reference: Revelation 2:18-29)

The church at Thyatira was a church that Jesus commended for their good works. They were a church doing many things right, but they had allowed compromise and sin to enter their midst. The main issue that Jesus had with them was the presence of the Jezebel spirit. This spirit of false teaching and deception leads people astray from the truth. The Jezebel spirit was operating in that church, leading them into error.

Revelation 2:19-21 I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first. Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling.

From this passage, we can deduce that the Jezebel spirit is characterized by pride, rebellion, manipulation, control, lust, unrepentance, and seduction.

What can other churches learn from the church at Thyatira?

  • First, we must be on guard against false teaching and deception. We must be careful not to allow compromise and sin to enter our midst.
  • And second, we must be willing to confront the Jezebel spirit when it shows up in our midst. We must not allow it to lead us astray from the truth.
  • Third God wants us wholly; we cannot serve two masters! We need to give our whole hearts to Him and stop being lukewarm.

The judgment that Jesus pronounced on Jezebel was a harsh one. He said that she would be cast into great suffering, and those who followed her would be afflicted as well. This is a powerful warning to us not to follow false teachers and those who lead us astray from the truth. We must be on our guard against them and be willing to confront them when they show up in our midst.

10 Signs of a Jezebel spirit and how it operates (characteristics)

what is a jezebel spirit kjv

So far from the post, I hope you can see that the Jezebel spirit is a very real thing. We see throughout scripture how this demonic spirit operated through the life of Jezebel, and we see the same characteristics manifesting in people today. This spirit is very dangerous and can profoundly impact individuals and entire churches.

Here are ten ways to recognize the Jezebel spirit:

1. Master manipulator

The Jezebel spirit is a master manipulator. It will try to control you by any means necessary. One of the most common ways it does this is by playing on your emotions. It will try to make you feel guilty or ashamed and use your insecurities against you. If you are not careful, the Jezebel spirit can take over your life and cause havoc.

2. Fear

Jezebel will try to scare you into submission. It may threaten you with physical violence, false accusations or worse. The Jezebel spirit can destroy your reputation and ruin your relationships if you are not careful.

3. Seduction

Jezebel will try to lure you into sexual sin. It may even convince you one way or another. The Jezebel spirit is known for using witchcraft to control its victims. If you are not careful, the Jezebel spirit can lead you down a dark path that will be difficult to escape from.

A quick caveat: This doesn’t mean that everyone who has this Spirit is seductive in an outward sense, but inwardly. Remember 1 Samuel 16:7 which states “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

4. Crafty

Jezebel is crafty, sneaky, and always tries to stay one step ahead. She achieves her desires through indirect or deceitful methods. Thus, if you don’t discern, her tactics are often successful because those she targets cannot see through her facade.

5. Lack of submission to authority

It is a spirit of lawlessness. This spirit does not want to submit to any authority, including the authority of God. The Jezebel spirit wants everyone to follow her and do things her way.

6. Rebellion

The Jezebel spirit is a spirit of rebellion. The Jezebel spirit is very dangerous, and it can have a very negative influence on human beings. If you are under the influence of this spirit, it will be very difficult for you to submit to authority. You will always want to do things your way, and you will rebel against anyone trying to tell you what to do.

7. Control

The Jezebel spirit is very controlling. It wants to control everything and everyone around it. This includes, but is not limited to, controlling what people think, what they do, and how they feel. The Jezebel spirit will go to great lengths to control the people in its life.

8. Prideful

The Jezebel spirit thinks highly of itself and loves to be the center of attention. The Jezebel spirit loves to be worshiped and adored. It will often try to take credit for things it did not do.

9. Intimidation

Another way that the Jezebel spirit operates is through intimidation. It will try to intimidate people into doing what it wants them to do.

10. Attracted to positions of power

The Jezebel spirit is attracted to people who are in positions of power. It loves to control them and use them for its own purposes.

Elijah and Jezebel

Discouragement, intimidation, and fear are all things that Jezebel likes to inflict on people. It is her way of gaining control and keeping people in line. Elijah experiences all those things (discouragement, intimidation, and fear).

So, who was Elijah?

Elijah was a great prophet of God. He had just come off a major victory against the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. But instead of basking in the Lord’s victory, he ran away in fear. Jezebel had threatened to kill him, and he was so afraid that he ran for his life. He ended up in a cave, feeling sorry for himself.

1 Kings 19:3-4 Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”

So, how did Elijah overcome these negative emotions?

First, we see that God helped Elijah in 1 Kings 19:7-8. Elijah was so discouraged that he wanted to die, but God intervened and gave him strength (through an angel). This shows us that we can’t always overcome our negative emotions on our own; sometimes, we need God’s help.

Second, we see that God reassured Elijah that he was not done with him yet. He spoke to Elijah and encouraged him to keep going. God reminded Elijah that he was not alone and had a purpose. Elijah got up and kept going, even though he was still afraid. (Read 1 Kings 19:9-21)

If we face discouragement, intimidation, or fear from Jezebel, we can take comfort in the fact that we are not alone. We have a purpose and can overcome anything she throws at us. Just like Elijah, we just have to keep going.

I’ll stop here because I will write an in-depth post on Elijah; stay tuned!

How Jehu defeated Jezebel

Jehu was another man who God used in a mighty way. God used Jehu to destroy the house of Ahab. Jehu did not shy away from confrontation either. When he confronted Queen Jezebel, he did not back down either.

In 2 Kings 9, Jehu is anointed king of Israel. He is told to go and destroy the house of Ahab, which includes Jezebel, the wicked queen who has been ruling over the people with an iron fist. Jehu is a brave man who knows that he needs to be decisive if he wants to succeed. He does not hesitate to carry out his orders and quickly dispatches.

Jehu’s strategy to overcome Jezebel can be summarized in five points:

1. Decisive action

Jehu was given the order to kill Jezebel, but he did not hesitate. He knew that he needed to act quickly and decisively if he was going to succeed.

2. Boldness

Jehu was not afraid to take on Jezebel, even though she was a powerful and wicked queen. He was bold in his actions and did not back down from his task.

3. Promptness

Jehu wasted no time in carrying out his orders. He quickly went to the members of Ahab’s house without giving them a chance to escape or to resist.

4. Thoroughness

Jehu made sure that Jezebel was utterly destroyed. No trace of Jezebel was left behind. (Read  2 Kings 9:36-37)

5. Single-mindedness

Jehu focused on his task and did not allow anything to distract him from it. He was determined, and he did not let anything stand in his way.

These are just a few things you can learn from Jehu’s strategy to overcome Jezebel. If you are facing a difficult situation in your life, remember Jehu’s example and be brave! Be decisive, be bold, and act quickly and thoroughly. You can overcome anything if you put your mind to it!

Quick caveat: Of course, as you act, you aren’t working under the submission of your flesh. You are fully yielded to the Spirit of God. You are using discernment on how to approach every situation- even when God tells you to stay put.

Galatians 5:16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Signs of a Jezebel spirit in the workplace

The spirit of Jezebel is alive and well in the workplace. The 10 signs that I listed earlier are relevant to identifying Jezebel in to workplace…However I I want to highlight four signs.

This is how I’ve personally experienced this spirit operate in the workplace:

1. Lies and deception

One way that the spirit of Jezebel operates in the workplace is through lies and deception. This spirit is known for being a liar and for bearing false witness.

2. Manipulation

This spirit is known for being manipulative and for trying to control others. If you feel like someone at work is constantly trying to control or manipulate you, I encourage you to pray for discernment.

3. Divisiveness

This spirit is known for being divisive and for causing division among employees. If you feel like there is a lot of conflict at work or that people are always disagreeing with each other, it’s possible that you are dealing with this spirit. She turns employees against each other, creates webs of manipulation.

4. Obsession with power

This spirit is known for being obsessed with power and trying to climb the corporate ladder at all costs.

Signs of Jezebel in church

The Jezebel spirit can also operate in the church.

Let’s look at a few traits:

  • Jezebel is also known for spreading false doctrine and leading people astray. This is why it is so important to be discerning when Jezebel is present in the church.
  • Jezebel also uses sexual immorality to gain control over others. This Jezebel spirit will often seduce men in positions of authority to manipulate them. Jezebel is a master of deception and will often disguise herself. However, make no mistake, Jezebel is a dangerous spirit that must be dealt with in the church.
  • Jezebel will often try to divide the church, so it is important to stand united against her. Pray for wisdom and discernment from the Holy Spirit. As always, speak the truth in love and stand firm against Jezebel.

Jezebel and purpose

The Jezebel spirit seeks to prevent people from walking into their purpose. It discourages and seeks to silence those who have a message from God. This spirit wants nothing more than to lead someone away from their calling or make them too intimidated to pursue it.

If you are feeling discouraged or silenced by the Jezebel spirit, remember that God is with you and has a plan for your life. Don’t give up on what He has called you to do! Trust in His strength and pursue your purpose with boldness.

Jezebel will attack Elijah’s!

Where the spirit of Elijah is, Jezebel’s spirit is always there. The Jezebel spirit is a serious threat to anyone who wants to live a life of purpose and destiny.

The Jezebel spirit is drawn to people with a prophetic anointing or a kingdom assignment. If you have either of these, the enemy will do everything he can to stop you from fulfilling your God-given destiny. The Jezebel spirit will try to discourage you, tempt you, and ultimately destroy you if it can.

If you know you have a kingdom assignment, understand this spirit because you will likely deal with it over and over throughout your ministry and assignment!

15 Tips on how to overcome the spirit of Jezebel

There are many ways to break free from the Jezebel spirit. However, it is important to note that God can give people completely different strategies on how to address and break free from this spirit. Please listen keenly and look to God in regards to your situation!

1. Recognize it

The first way to overcome the Jezebel spirit is by recognizing it. This spirit is very deceptive and will often disguise itself as something good. It is essential to be aware of the ways in which this spirit operates so that you can identify it when it tries to come into your life. Reference the signs I provided earlier in the post to help you recognize this spirit.

2. Repent

The second way to overcome the Jezebel spirit is by repenting. This means that you turn away from the things you have been doing that have given this spirit a foothold in your life. It is important to ask God for forgiveness and to make a commitment to change your behavior.

3. Discernment

The spirit of discernment is something that we all need in order to overcome Jezebel. Pray for discernment in order to overcome this spirit, we need to be discerning and rely on the Lord’s guidance. He will help us discern truth from lies, and good from evil. With His help, we can overcome any attack from the enemy! When we are able to discern truth from lies, we are less likely to be controlled or manipulated by this evil spirit. The Lord will help us if we ask Him! All we need to do is trust in His guidance, and He will lead us to victory!

4. Renounce

The fourth way to overcome the Jezebel spirit is by renouncing it. This means that you declare that you are no longer under the influence of this spirit. This is a very important step because it breaks the spiritual hold that Jezebel has on you.

5. Confront and expose her

I want to reiterate that the Jezebel Spirit is very cunning and deceitful. She will try to avoid confrontation at all costs. Let’s remember that Elijah and Jehu confronted her head-on, and we should do the same. When I say exposure- expose the Jezebel spirit for what it is! This will help others to see the truth and be set free from its control.

6. Resisting

The sixth way to overcome the Jezebel spirit is by resisting it. This means that you stand firm against the things that this spirit is trying to get you to do. You do not give in to its demands or its temptations.

7. Rebuke it!

The seventh way to overcome the Jezebel spirit is through rebuking it. This is when you take authority over this spirit in the name of Jesus and command it to leave you alone.

8. Prayer

Prayer is a very powerful tool that we have against this spiritual enemy. We can use prayer to ask God for protection, wisdom, and strength. We can also use prayer to intercede on behalf of others under this spirit’s influence.

9. Fasting

Fasting will help you to focus on God and resist the temptation of the Jezebel spirit.

10. Word of God

Read, study, and meditate on the Word of God. It is a powerful weapon against the Jezebel spirit because we will build up our faith!

Remember this verse: Romans 10:17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

11. Put on the full armor of God

The full armor of God is a defense against the spirit of Jezebel. Per Ephesians, the armor enables us to stand against the devil’s schemes. (Read Ephesians 6:10-18)

12. Praise and worship

Praise God for His protection, strength, and deliverance from the Jezebel spirit. This will help you to focus on God and not on the enemy.

Remember to also worship God with all your heart, soul, and mind.

13. Accountability

Find an accountability partner with whom you can be honest about your struggles. This will help you to stay accountable and resist the Jezebel spirit.

14. Deliverance

This happens when someone who is trained in deliverance prays for you and sets you free from the spiritual bondage that Jezebel has put you in.

15. Counseling

Seek professional counseling if you have been under the influence of the Jezebel spirit for a long time. This will help you to deal with any underlying issues contributing to your vulnerability to the Jezebel spirit.

Grace to overcome Jezebel

When it comes to the spirit of Jezebel, we often find ourselves at a loss for what to do. She is a powerful force and can be quite intimidating. But we must remember that God is always with us and will give us the grace we need to overcome this spirit.

  1. One of the most important things to remember about grace is that it is a free gift from God. It is not something we have to earn or something we can buy. It is simply something that God offers us, and we can choose to accept it or not. When we choose to accept His grace, we are choosing to receive His power and strength. And that is precisely what we need when dealing with the spirit of Jezebel.
  2. Another reason why grace is so important is that it gives us hope. Hope that we can overcome it no matter what Jezebel throws our way. We can stand firm in our faith and know God will give us victory. Grace gives us the courage to face our fears and to confront Jezebel head-on.

So, next time you are feeling overwhelmed by the spirit of Jezebel, remember that God is with you, and He will give you the grace you need to overcome her. Use His grace as your weapon against her, and know you are never alone in this battle. Pray for it and accept this free gift! God is always with you and will give you the strength you need to defeat Jezebel.

Do you suspect that Jezebel spirit is affecting you?

If you are struggling (or being attacked) by the Jezebel spirit, know that you are not alone. There are many people who have gone through what you are going through and have come out victorious. As I’ve explained in my blog post, we have biblical records of people who faced her head-on and defeated her.

However, realize that you are not meant to live in bondage. You are not meant to be controlled or oppressed by anyone.

If you are under the influence of the Jezebel spirit, it is time to break free and start living in submission to the authority of God. It is time to start living in obedience to His Word. It is time to turn away from sin and follow Jesus Christ. He is the only One who can give you true freedom. He is the only One who can set you free from the bondage of sin and death. So, if you are under the influence of the Jezebel spirit, I encourage you to turn to Jesus Christ today and ask Him to set you free.

If you think you may be dealing and being attacked by the Jezebel spirit, you can also seek help from a qualified spiritual warfare counselor, pastor, or deliverance minister. They will be able to help you identify the signs of the Jezebel spirit and give you practical advice on how to deal with it. Remember, the Jezebel spirit is very crafty, and it is essential to take action if you think this Spirit is attacking you.

And that’s its folks, signs of a Jezebel spirit

As I close, you can see the spirit of Jezebel operates in the world today. It isn’t just a biblical story of an evil woman who was overcome and is no more. No, it’s a spirit that wants to prevent people from hearing God’s voice and from being led by the Holy Spirit. It tries to control and manipulate others in order to achieve its own agenda.

If you are struggling with the spirit of Jezebel, I encourage you to seek out the Lord’s help. He is faithful and will never leave or forsake you. Trust in Him, and He will give you the victory!
