The Goshen Blessing: 12 Benefits of Dwelling in Goshen

This post is all about Goshen blessing

Did you know that there is a place where you can experience prosperity in the midst of a crisis? This place is known as Goshen.

Ok, I have to be very honest… I’m super excited to be writing this post about the Goshen blessing (insert cartwheels). This is a post that I poured out my heart and soul into because God has been teaching me about this in a powerful way! 💖

In this post, I will explore what Goshen means and how you can apply its principles to your own life. I will also look at the history of Goshen and many other exciting tips and tools to assist you in receiving the Goshen blessing in your life!

Ready to be motivated? Let’s begin…

What does Goshen mean?

Goshen means “drawing near” or “the best of the land.”

Goshen has become synonymous with “a place of comfort and plenty.”

History and Geographical location of the land of Goshen

Genesis 47:11 So Joseph settled his father and his brothers in Egypt and gave them property in the best part of the land, the district of Rameses, as Pharaoh directed.

The land of Goshen is found in the Eastern Nile Delta. This land is very fertile and has a temperate climate. Per the Bible Atlas, the modern town that is close to where Goshen was is known as Zagazig.

Goshen was given to the Israelites by the Pharaoh. It was inhabited by both Canaanites and Egyptians before the Israelites arrived.

Meaning of “The Goshen Blessing”

The Goshen blessing is a term used to describe the abundant provision of God. As stated earlier, it comes from the story of Joseph and his brothers in the book of Genesis.

After being sold into slavery by his brothers, Joseph was taken to Egypt, where he was eventually given a prominent position in Pharaoh’s court. When a famine hit the land of Canaan, Joseph’s brothers came to Egypt to purchase food. Joseph revealed himself to them and welcomed them into his home. He told them that God had sent him ahead of them to preserve life and that they were now in the land of Goshen, a land of plenty.

It started with separation…

Have you ever wondered why Goshen was such a blessed land? Because it was separated from the rest of Egypt for one reason: it was where the Israelites lived.

The Egyptians disdained shepherds and people who worshipped God, so they kept the Israelites separate from the rest of the population. This prevented them (Israelites) from assimilating and losing their culture and religion. And this set them up for the Goshen blessing!

God protected them from the plagues that afflicted the rest of Egypt. He led them out of slavery and into freedom. And he promised to be with them always.

Here is are biblical verses that explains the reason they were separated:

Genesis 43:32 They served him by himself, the brothers by themselves, and the Egyptians who ate with him by themselves, because Egyptians could not eat with Hebrews, for that is detestable to Egyptians.

Genesis 46:34 you should answer, ‘Your servants have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.’ Then you will be allowed to settle in the region of Goshen, for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians.”

Where or What is your Goshen?

I don’t know what your “Goshen” represents. Could it be a job, career, or business?

Well, just know Goshen is a place of separation. It is a spiritual place that is set apart from the rest of the world. In order to access Goshen, one must be willing to separate themselves from the things of this world. This includes separating oneself from their sinful ways and repenting. Once you done this, you can then dwell in Goshen.

So, as we continue this blog post, understand that separation isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes blessing requires separation. This could mean being ushered into a season where we feel that we are losing friends or stripped of material possessions as we are being set up for much more.

Crisis and discomfort can prepare you for your Goshen season

I had to make you uncomfortable, otherwise you never would have moved.

Unknown

How many of us can relate to the story of Jacob and his sons? They were facing famine in their homeland and were forced to go to Egypt in search of food. But little did they know that this would start a new chapter in their lives. They were later given Goshen, a land that would become their new home.

Crisis and discomfort can often be the catalyst for change in our lives. It is during these times that we are forced to step out of our comfort zones and into unfamiliar territory. But if we are willing to embrace the change, we may find that it is precisely what we need. We may find our Goshen.

There are many other examples in the Bible of God’s people being blessed in the midst of crisis. In the book of Esther, we see how Esther and the whole of Israel were protected from destruction by the king’s decree. And in the book of Daniel, we see how Daniel and his friends were protected from the fiery furnace and the lion’s den.

These stories remind us that we can always trust in God’s protection and provision no matter what the enemy throws our way. When living in Goshen, we can rest assured that He will bless us in the midst of crisis.

So if you are facing a difficult situation in your life, don’t be discouraged. It may just be the beginning of a new and exciting chapter. Also, remember that sometimes you have to be uncomfortable or in crisis to move into your calling and align with God’s will.

Trust in God’s protection and provision, embrace the change, and see where it takes you. You might just find your Goshen.

Goshen during economic or personal crisis

The Goshen principle can be applied to any situation. Per what I’ve stated earlier, the spiritual significance of dwelling in Goshen is that it is a place of safety and provision. It is a place where God’s people can prosper even in the midst of crisis. The Lord promised to be with His people in Goshen. God promised to give them favor in the eyes of the Egyptians.

So, even in an economic or personal crisis, you can be in a Goshen season where you receive abundant blessings.

In the world’s economy, things work according to times and seasons i.e. recession etc., but it’s not so with God. Why? Because Goshen was operating in a different clock, a God-appointed season!

In Genesis 41:54-57, we see Joseph storing food during the seven years of plenty, preparing for the seven years of famine. And when the famine came, the people of Egypt had to go to Joseph for food. Would you have given them the food if you were in Joseph’s shoes? If it was just natural human reasoning, probably not. But because God was with Joseph, he gave them the food.

Do you see how God’s economy differs from the world’s?

In the world, you might think it doesn’t make sense to help others because you won’t have enough for yourself. But with God, it’s different. He blesses us so that we can be a blessing to others. So don’t be afraid to help others, even if it means that you won’t have as much for yourself. Because in the end, you will be blessed. And who knows, maybe you will be the one blessing someone else in their time of need.

So don’t be bound by what the news say, if God says it’s a season of abundance…say “Amen” and trust Him!

The Goshen Blessing: Why a Mental Shift is Necessary

There is a shift that must take place in order for the Goshen blessing to manifest. Many people are already in this season spiritually, but they don’t realize it. They continue to operate out of their old paradigms and don’t walk in the authority and blessing they have over the land.

If you want to experience the Goshen blessing in your life, it starts with a mental shift. You must come to the realization that you are already in this season spiritually. Once you realize this, you can begin to operate out of your new paradigm and walk in the authority and blessing God has given you.

This is a process that starts with a conscious decision to change. Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” This verse is a call to action. In order to see transformation in our lives, we must first decide to change our thinking. When we do this, we open ourselves up to new possibilities and begin to experience all that God has for us!

If you are ready to make the shift and come to the realization that you are already in this season spiritually, here are some practical steps you can take:

  • Pray and ask God to reveal any areas of your life where you need to change your thinking.
  • Read and study Scripture, meditating on verses that speak to the power of God in our lives.
  • Surround yourself with positive, like-minded people who will encourage and support you in your journey.
  • Find a church or fellowship group where you can worship God and grow your faith.

Make the decision to change your thinking today and open yourself up to all God has for you!

5 tips for applying and experiencing the Goshen Blessing

If you want to experience the Goshen Blessing in your own life, here are five tips:

  1. Obey the Lord your God. (Deuteronomy 28:14)
  2. Be diligent in your work. (Proverbs 22:29)
  3. Be thankful and praise the Lord. (Psalm 105:43-45)
  4. Share with those in need. (Proverbs 14:21)
  5. Do not be afraid. (Exodus 14:13-14)

Encouragement for your Goshen journey

Goshen is a reminder that God is always with us and will never leave or forsake us. When we go through tough times, it’s easy to focus on the negative and forget all the good things God has done for us. But if we can keep our eyes on Jesus, we will see that he is always with us, even in the midst of a crisis.

Joseph was sent ahead of his family to Goshen to prepare the way for them. When they arrived in Goshen, they were met with open arms by Joseph and the Egyptians. They were given the best land in Egypt to live in and prospered there. I believe that God will prepare and send destiny helpers our way as we enter Goshen.

So what does all this mean for us today? As Christians, we can take comfort in knowing that no matter what happens in this world, we have a permanent dwelling place in a place similar to Goshen. Goshen is a picture of heaven, but lets be serious…Heaven exceeds Goshen, but I know you understand what I’m trying to get at.🤣

Heaven is a place of abundance and rest. There will be no more sorrow, no more pain, and no more tears.

Philippians 3:20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

Important questions to consider if you want to experience the Goshen blessing

If you want to experience the Goshen blessing in your own life, here are some things to consider:

1. Are you obedient to God?

One of the conditions of the Goshen blessing is obedience. If you want to experience God’s provision in your life, you must be obedient to Him. This means aligning yourself with His will for your life and living according to His Word.

2. Do you have faith?

Another condition of the Goshen blessing is faith. You must believe that God is able and willing to provide for you abundantly. This doesn’t mean that you won’t face difficult times, but it does mean that you can trust God to take care of you.

3. Do you trust God?

In order to receive the Goshen blessing, you must trust God completely. This means surrendering your life to Him and trusting He knows what’s best for you. It also means being willing to step out in faith, even when you can’t see what He’s doing.

4. Are you thankful?

One of the fruits of the Goshen blessing is thankfulness. When you experience God’s provision in your life, it should fill you with thankfulness and gratitude. This thankfulness should be expressed in your words and actions.

5. Do you share with others?

Another fruit of the Goshen blessing is a desire to share with others. When you experience God’s provision, it should cause you to want to help those who are less fortunate. This could mean giving your time, resources, or talents.

6. Are you living a life of worship?

The final fruit of the Goshen blessing is a life of worship. When you experience God’s provision, it should cause you to want to praise and glorify Him. This means living your life for His glory and not your own.

Archaeological finds prove the existence of Goshen

Joseph’s tomb was found and is said to be one of the most important archaeological finds in Biblical history. Per the archaeologists, the statue in the tomb shows a coat of many colors or a colorful robe (Genesis 37:3), but no bones there. We know that in Exodus 13:19, Joseph’s bones were taken by Moses per his request before he died.

This affirms that Joseph was indeed a real person and that the land of Goshen existed. It also pieces in the story of the Exodus. This should also increase our faith to know that this (Goshen) was an actual place that existed and that the word of God is alive and true. More so, it tells us we can still apply this principle in our lives today.

If you are interested in reading this in-depth archaeological review, “The Seal of Joseph in His Palace at Tell Ed-Daba (Re-edited)” is a good one for you!

And that’s it, folks, all about the Goshen blessing

In conclusion, the Goshen Blessing is a principle you can apply to your life to experience God’s blessings. By seeking God’s presence, dwelling in His peace, being grateful for what you have, giving generously, and serving others, you can open the door for God’s blessings to flow into your life.

If you face difficulties, know God has a plan for your prosperity. Have faith and trust in Him, and you will see His blessings in your life.

  7. Such a well put together teaching on God’s promises and blessings. Tough question : can you help reconcile how the promises of Goshen later became 400 years of Israelite slavery to the Egyptians? You are an inspiration.
