Pray for Nigeria | Arise O, Battle Axe!

Without a doubt, Nigeria is a beautiful and chosen nation.❤️ As an outsider (I’m Kenyan American) who has come to love this country, I am constantly in awe of the incredible talent and passion that comes from its people. My worship playlist is filled with songs from Nigerian worship leaders, and I follow many Nigerian apostolic leaders who inspire me daily.

But in as much as Nigeria is blessed, it seems that there is a constant spiritual smear campaign to discredit this country. It’s as if the enemy knows the potential and power of Nigeria and is doing everything in its power to overshadow it with negativity.

But just like Gideon, who was considered the lowest among his people, rose up and became a great leader, I believe Nigeria has the strength and resilience to overcome any obstacles.

Let us never forget that even Jesus, our Lord and Savior, from the small and insignificant town of Nazareth, went on to redeem us. Let’s revisit Nathaniel’s statement, “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” (John 1:46).

Friends, if the whole world is doubting whether anything good can come from Nigeria, may the Lord surprise the naysayers so that they praise God for the divine turnaround!

Let’s lift up Nigeria and declare its blessings and potential for the world to see. Nigeria can indeed overcome any challenges and show the world that it is truly a chosen nation.

Ready? Let’s go

7 Prayer Points to Pray for Nigeria

1. Arise, O Battle Axe!

We pray for Nigeria to rise up with strength and courage, like a battle axe in the hands of God.

Friends, this is the most important prayer point. So I will explain it in detail! I believe this has been highlighted to me, and I need to explain why I am using this reference.

A little about a battle axe…in ancient times, the battle axe was one of the most feared weapons on the battlefield. It was a versatile and formidable weapon that could utterly crush and shatter armor, making it capable of defeating even the strongest opponents.

But what does this have to do with spiritual warfare? In the book of Jeremiah, the battle axe is used as a symbol of God’s power to shatter and break through strongholds. Just like how the physical battle axe can pierce through armor, God’s power can break through any demonic/spiritual barriers and bondage.

As believers in Christ, we have been given the authority to use His Word as our weapon in spiritual warfare. When we surrender to Him and allow Him to work through us, we become vessels unto honor, prepared for service in His kingdom. This means that we have the power to occupy territories and end the bondage and generational issues that have held Nigeria hostage.

Imagine a united army of Nigerian intercessors like a battle axe, wielding the powerful Word of God, breaking every chain and stronghold over the beloved country. This is not just a possibility, but it is our calling as believers to actively engage in spiritual warfare and stand against the forces of evil.

Intercessors- be enthusiastic and positive about the power we have been given through Christ. Come together in unity, and see Nigeria transformed by the power of God.

So why do I say this?… To implore Nigeria to surrender to God and declare His Word. Fall to your knees. Keep your lamps burning and pray!

As you continue to use this weapon in prayer and action, you will see God’s kingdom come, and His will be done in your nation.

Scripture:

“Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;” Jeremiah 51:20

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;” 2 Corinthians 10:4

2. Transparency and Integrity

We pray for Nigerian leaders to govern with transparency and integrity, always seeking the best interests of the people they serve. May corruption and deceit be eradicated from government and society.

Scripture:

“The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.” Proverbs 11:3

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9

3. Economic Stability

We pray for economic stability in Nigeria, that businesses may thrive, and that people may have access to jobs and resources to provide for themselves and their families. We ask for wisdom and guidance for leaders in making decisions that will benefit the economy.

Scripture: “The blessing of the Lord makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.” Proverbs 10:22

“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:8

4. Safety and Protection of Citizens

We pray for safety and protection over Nigerian citizens, both physically and spiritually. May they be shielded from harm and danger, and may those who seek to cause harm be stopped in their tracks.

Scripture:

“But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” 2 Thessalonians 3:3

“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing.” Psalm 34:7-9

5. Unity of Country through Forgiveness

We pray for unity in this country and that all divisions and hatred may be replaced with forgiveness and love. May citizens learn to see each other through God’s eyes as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Scripture:

“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” – Colossians 3:13

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” Psalm 133:1

6. Recompense of What the Enemy Has Plundered

We pray for restoration and recompense for all that the enemy has stolen from Nigeria. May God redeem and restore what has been taken, bringing healing and wholeness to the land.

Scripture: “I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten – the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm – my great army that I sent among you.” – Joel 2:25

7. Freedom from Persecution

We pray for freedom from persecution for all those who face persecution because of their faith in this country. May they be protected and strengthened by God’s hand, and may religious freedom be upheld.

Scripture:

Read Psalm 91

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

“…persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. 2 Timothy 3:11

P.S. I’ve had a spiritual burden and renewed care for Nigeria over the past few weeks. I write this not only because of my mandate but also because of pure love from the Father.

P.P.S. There is a reason why God deposited a relentless and fearless nature in Nigerians. It will take courage and the Spirit of God (not might, not power) to overcome what is against you. However, if there are people who are right for this job, it’s Nigeria!

God’s speed. The Ekklesia cheers you on.

Hugs,
