12 Steps to Solving Spiritual Problems (Christian Spiritual Audit)

Hello beautiful friend!❤️

Welcome to today’s blog post! I will dive into the topic of “spiritual audit” and how it relates to solving spiritual problems.

Now, you may be wondering what exactly a spiritual audit is. Well, let’s start by understanding the term “audit.” In the business world, companies often conduct audits to examine their financial records and ensure accuracy. Similarly, a spiritual audit involves examining our own lives with an unbiased lens.

As Christians, we are called to live a life that is pleasing to God. However, sometimes, we may face challenges or struggles that hinder us from doing so. This is where the spiritual audit comes in. It allows us to dissect these problems and uncover the root cause of them.

But unlike a business audit, the spiritual audit is not just about finding the problem and solving it. It’s also about understanding the underlying spiritual factors that may have influenced or contributed to the issue. Was it generational patterns? Or perhaps a result of our own sin OR an open door to the devil?

Asking ourselves these questions during the spiritual audit process can help us gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and our relationship with God. It also allows us to approach problem-solving in a systematic way, with vigor and intentionality.

Ready? Let’s go

Why I’m writing this post

As a Christian blogger, I am approached with questions on how to handle various spiritual problems and concerns. And let me tell you, I don’t take these questions lightly. I pray over the person and each email before I respond.❤️ So, in short, I completely understand where people are coming from because I used to be in their shoes.

In 2012, I hosted a Pastor from Tanzania who was incredibly knowledgeable and had an answer for everything backed by the Holy Word. I became heavily dependent on her, constantly seeking her guidance and counsel at every turn.

But then, something happened. Her stay ended, and she moved on to other things, leaving me without my go-to source of spiritual direction. During this time, I realized the importance of developing my tools and skills for spiritual audit.

This post will outline my spiritual audit process, which is a method of dissecting and understanding spiritual problems in order to find solutions. And while I may not have a physical checklist to follow, I have developed my own strategy for tackling these issues in my head. I’ve attempted to write down this post to outline my thinking process.

As you continue to grow in your spiritual journey, you will also gain more confidence in handling these challenges.

An example of a spiritual audit

Sometime back, I was dealing with a spiritual warfare issue that needed resolution. I initially thought of going to the courts of heaven, but using the outline below (in my head LOL), the Lord directed me to go through a season of consecration. I got BIG WINS.

Friends, don’t assume the Lord will always direct you to fast, etc. He may give a multi-faceted approach (fasting + declaring the Word + courts of heaven etc.) OR a surprisingly different solution (backed by scripture) to solve your situation!

By sharing my own experiences and insights, I hope to help others gain a deeper understanding of how to approach and overcome their own spiritual struggles.

Important Note: ⚠️ Please don’t view the steps below from a legalistic way. It’s merely a way to help you brainstorm and understand that YOU can confidently go to our Heavenly Father (through Jesus) and get a solution to your problem- with 0 earthly intermediaries. (Read Hebrews 4:14-16)

Step 1: Invite God to reveal any areas that need to be addressed.

Scripture: “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” – Psalm 139:23-24

& “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” – Psalm 51:10

These verses remind us of the importance of having a pure heart before God. They invite us to reflect on our inner selves and invite God to reveal any areas that may need to be addressed.

It prompts us to conduct a spiritual audit of our hearts and minds, allowing God to search us and bring any hidden issues to light.

Step 2: What themes are spiritual issues coming up?

Scripture: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” – Ephesians 6:12

This verse reminds us that our struggles are not merely physical or circumstantial but often have spiritual roots.

It prompts us to examine the themes or patterns that may be present in our struggles and recognize when they may indicate a deeper spiritual issue.

Step 3: Have you examined your motives and desires in relation to the spiritual issue?

Scripture: “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” – James 4:3 (NIV)

This verse reminds us of the importance of examining our motives and desires in any spiritual issue.

This means we need to reflect on our intentions and submit them to God, ensuring that our desires align with His will for our lives.

Step 4: Remember the modus operandi of the enemy

Scripture: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” – John 10:10

This verse reminds us that we have an enemy who seeks to harm us and prevent us from living a fulfilling life in Christ.

It prompts us to reflect on any recurring struggles or patterns in our lives and consider how they may (if at all) be related to spiritual attacks.

Step 5: Present it to God and repent (if the root of the issue is sin)

Scripture: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9

This verse reminds us of the importance of confessing and repenting when we have sinned.

This means we need to present our struggles and issues to God, asking for His forgiveness and guidance in unearthing the root cause.

Step 6: Consult the Holy Spirit for a strategy (It has to be rooted in the Word)

Scripture: “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” – John 16:13

This verse reminds us that we have the Holy Spirit as our guide and helper in all things.

It prompts us to seek His direction and wisdom when dealing with spiritual issues, knowing that it will always be aligned with God’s word.

Step 7: Are you relying on your own strength or seeking God’s guidance?

Scripture: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

This verse reminds us to trust in God and seek His guidance instead of relying on our own understanding or strength.

This means we need to continually seek God’s direction and submit to Him in all areas of our lives. This also means don’t jump into conclusions or make assumptions.

Step 8: Have you taken time to rest, reflect, and seek God’s presence?

Scripture: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28

This verse reminds us of the importance of resting in God’s presence and finding refreshment for our souls.

It prompts us to intentionally rest, reflect, and seek God’s presence, knowing He will provide the peace and rejuvenation we need.

Step 9: Figure out what spiritual tools or verses are necessary to solve the problem, i.e., fasting, courts of heaven, consecration, prayer etc.

Scripture: “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” – 2 Corinthians 10:3-4

This verse reminds us that our spiritual battles require spiritual tools and weapons. It prompts us to seek God for direction on which tools or verses to use in order to find victory and overcome spiritual issues.

This could include fasting, engaging in the courts of heaven, or consecrating ourselves to God’s purposes. This verse emphasizes the importance of relying on God’s power rather than our own fleshly tools when facing spiritual problems.

Step 10: Have you surrendered your struggles and burdens to God?

Scripture: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7

This verse reminds us to surrender our struggles and burdens to God, knowing He cares for us deeply.

It prompts us to release our worries and concerns into His hands, trusting in His love and faithfulness to carry us through any spiritual issue we may face.

Step 11: Are you seeking to grow in your understanding of God’s word and applying it to your life?

Scripture: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” – Psalm 119:105

This verse emphasizes the importance of studying and applying God’s word in our lives.

This means we need to continually seek growth in understanding and applying God’s word, knowing that it is a guiding light for our spiritual journey.

Step 12: Reflect and deliberate on improvements

Scripture: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” – Romans 12:2

This verse encourages us to actively reflect on our thoughts and actions, seeking to align them with God’s will instead of the patterns of this world.

It prompts us to deliberate on ways we can improve and grow in our spiritual journey, allowing God to transform us from the inside out.

🤗Another way of thinking of this is: once that particular spiritual problem is solved… Take mental note, reflect, learn and ELEVATE by the transforming power of God! Resolve to not repeat any patterns but ensure the issue is permanently resolved and doesn’t recur!

And that’s it, folks, a spiritual audit to solving spiritual problems

By following these steps and conducting a spiritual audit, we can identify and address any underlying spiritual issues that we may be facing and discover solutions through the Lord’s guidance.

Remember to continually seek God in prayer and study His word as we navigate our journey of faith.

P.S. Hopefully, I will record a video later in the year to explain this in detail.

Hugs,
