This post is all about enjoying the little things in life
I’m so excited as I write this.💃🏾 I had two uplifting experiences on the same day, which inspired this post. So, I will share them and offer important life nuggets to keep you motivated.
Ready? Let’s go!
What does “happiness is enjoying the little things in life” mean?
It’s been said that happiness is enjoying the little things in life. But what does that really mean?
Enjoying the little things in life means finding joy and contentment in everyday moments. This could be something as simple as a phone call from a friend, a smile from a stranger, or taking a walk outside.
While enjoying the little things in life won’t necessarily make all your problems disappear, it can help you appreciate the good moments and find a sense of calm amidst the chaos.
Why I’m calling the tips a “secret.”
I’m referring to these tips as secrets because they’re not things people typically think about. Enjoying the little things in life is something you have to be intentional about. It’s not something that will just happen naturally. You have to make a conscious effort to find happiness in everyday moments!
But don’t worry, it’s not as difficult as it sounds.
Let’s start with my two stories before we end with quotes and my seven “secrets” hehe…
Conversation at a grocery store with a beautiful 91-year-old woman
I will never forget this day at the grocery store; it was the 16th of June. I was running around, trying to get everything on my list before returning home. I was in a bit of a hurry, not really paying attention to anything else but my list. As I rounded the corner into the next aisle, an elderly lady stopped me. She had a warm smile on her face, and she said, “Hello, dear! I just wanted to tell you that you have a beautiful smile.” It caught me off guard, so I thanked her for the compliment.
That compliment turned into a wholesome conversation. We talked for 20 minutes about our favorite movies and TV shows. We discussed movies like Gone with the Wind, Mary Poppins, Ben Hur (the original 1959 movie), and The Golden Girls.🤣 She was surprised and asked me how old I was because I could hold a pretty solid conversation about music and movies from the 40s through the 80s. I then told her my parents loved those movies, so that’s all I could watch on VHS tape when I was growing up! Lol. She told me about her grandchildren and that she is headed for another baby shower! She was over the moon.
I then took the time to talk to her about my grandfather, who was such a blessing to me, so I told her that I could tell that she’s a blessing to her entire family. She really appreciated my sincerity and stated that she hoped she meets me again at the store because I took the time to have a warm, spontaneous conversation.❤️
She was so positive and reminded me to enjoy the little things in life. It was such a lovely conversation, and it made my day brighter. I’m so glad I bumped into her that day. Sometimes, we all need a reminder to enjoy the little things in life.
P.S She had a pep in her step! Like for real, her walking pace was faster than mine! Also, her sense of humor was amazing.
Walking and sightseeing by the lake
My favorite pastime is to walk and sightsee at the lake. Where I live, we are surrounded by lakes, hiking trails, etc.; it’s absolutely delightful.
Before meeting the 91-year older woman at the grocery store, I had taken a walk in nature.
Here are some pictures of the lake by my house.

So more explanations why I love to do this activity:
Walking is a great way to enjoy the little things in life. It allows you to take in your surroundings and appreciate the beauty of nature. Walking also gives you time to reflect on your day and think about what is important to you.
Sightseeing is another excellent way to enjoy the little things in life. There is so much to see in this world, and sightseeing is a great way to experience it. Whether you are looking at the stars or exploring a new city, sightseeing allows you to appreciate the world around you.
The best things in life are free
We’ve all heard that “the best things in life are free.” I agree with this phrase because enjoying the little things in life shouldn’t cost a thing.
Sometimes we think we need to spend a lot of money to have fun or be happy, but that’s not true! There are plenty of ways to enjoy life without spending any money at all.
7 Secrets to Enjoying the Little Things in Life
Too often, we are so focused on the big things in life that we forget to enjoy the little moments.
Here are the 7 “secrets” to shift your thinking:
1. Be present
This can be something as simple as enjoying a cup of coffee or listening to a friend’s story. When you’re focused on what’s happening around you, you’re more likely to notice the small details. If you’re not present, you’ll miss out on these little moments.
2. Savor
This means taking the time to really appreciate what’s happening around you. For example, if you’re enjoying a delicious meal, take a moment to appreciate all the flavors and textures. Or, if you’re enjoying a beautiful sunset, take a few deep breaths and enjoy the view.
3. Be grateful
This means taking a moment to appreciate all the good things in your life, no matter how small they may be. For example, you might be grateful for a warm bed to sleep in or a roof over your head. Or, you might be thankful for a kind word from a stranger.
4. Laugh/ find humor
This means looking for the funny side of situations, no matter how small they may be. For example, you might find humor in a friend’s silly joke or a funny video you saw online. Or, you might even find humor in your own mistakes!
5. Make time!
This means setting aside time each day to do things you enjoy, no matter how small they may be. For example, you might set aside 30 minutes daily to read a book or take a walk. Or, you might set aside 15 minutes each day to call a friend or family member.
6. Enjoy phone time!
Phone calls from friends are a great way to enjoy the little things in life. These calls allow you to catch up with old friends and make new ones. They also give you an opportunity to talk about your day and share your thoughts and feelings.
7. Enjoy your own company
Finally, you can enjoy the little things in life by enjoying your own company. This means taking the time to do things that make you happy, even if you’re alone. For example, you might take yourself out for coffee or go for a walk in nature. Or, you might spend time journaling, self-care, or practicing meditation (quiet time).
By following these seven tips, you’ll be sure to find more happiness in your everyday moments. So take a moment to enjoy the little things in life and see how much better you feel!
