Have you noticed that God often works in the spaces we create for Him? Over the past few months, I’ve felt Him pressing this truth onto my heart—”Make room. Prepare to receive.” But it didn’t fully click until today (literally 4 hours ago!).
As I was driving to the grocery store, talking to God like I always do, I suddenly felt these words press strongly into my heart: “I don’t need you to move; I need you to make room.” Without thinking, I mumbled out loud, “Make room, Heather!” And right at that moment, as if on cue, I heard a voice on the radio say, “Make room.” For a second, I wondered if I was dreaming. But then I realized—it was a song I’d never heard before. Tauren Wells’ Make Room had just started playing. I then giggled and said, “God, it’s really You!”❤️ It was one of those undeniable moments where God made Himself so abundantly clear.
Instantly, it struck me. I had been so focused on doing—staying busy, trying to fix things, trying to create my own solutions. But here was God, gently redirecting me, urging me to step back and prepare space.
This experience has left me both encouraged and convicted—and today, I want to share what God is teaching me about making room for Him to move and perform miracles.
What Does “Making Room” Mean?
When God calls us to “make room,” He invites us into a posture of faith, where we see in the Spirit that God has already done the miracle. Once we see that evidence (faith) in the spirit, we prepare and make space. It can show up as decluttering because we know we will sell our house soon. It can be clearing up your credit because you are expecting to put an offer on your dream home.
Here’s what I deduce:
- It’s all about clearing space in your heart, mind, and schedule to receive your miracle.
- It’s stretching and expanding your capacity to contain that miracle.
- It’s less about activity and more about intentionality.
- It requires us to step away from the “grind” and create an open invitation for God to work in ways we can’t foresee or fathom.
The Power of Preparing and Decluttering
Throughout the Bible, we see countless examples of people preparing to receive God’s promises. One of my favorite examples is the widow in 2 Kings 4. You know the story—she’s facing impossible circumstances, and yet the prophet Elisha instructs her to go and gather as many empty jars as she can find.
Think about that for a second. She didn’t know how God was going to provide, yet she prepared in faith by gathering those jars. Because she made room—literally and figuratively—God performed the miracle of providing an overflow of oil.
What if she hadn’t prepared? What if she had only gathered a few jars? The size of the miracle was directly tied to the space she created.
Sometimes, we limit God’s ability to bless us because we haven’t prepared enough room in our hearts and lives for His work. We’re so caught up in controlling or solving things ourselves that we miss the quiet opportunity to step back and invite Him in.
“Make Room” in Every Aspect of Your Life
🌸Make Room in Your Heart
Before God can perform a miracle, He often works on our hearts. Is there bitterness, fear, or doubt that’s crowding out faith? Ask God to help you surrender these things—to give you a heart that’s ready to trust Him fully.
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” – Psalm 51:10
🌸Make Room in Your Schedule
Are you so busy running from task to task that you’re leaving little space for God to show up? Imagine what would happen if you committed to carving out more time for prayer, worship, or simply sitting quietly in His presence.
Even Tauren Wells reminds us in his song, “Shake up the ground of all my traditions, break down the walls of all my religion. Your way is better.” Set aside distractions and open your life to God’s way.
🌸Make Room in Your Expectations
Sometimes, we box God into what we see as possible. But God doesn’t work according to human limitations. He asks you to step back in faith and expect the unexpected.
Isaiah 55:9 reminds us, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
When we drop our narrow expectations, we make room for God’s limitless creativity to surprise us.
Trust God to Fill the Room
Faith without action is dead (James 2:17), but often, the initiating action God calls us to take is trust. It’s taking a step back and believing that God is preparing something bigger and better than we can imagine.
Just like He sent manna to the Israelites in the desert, just like He filled the jars with oil for the widow, and just like He multiplied the loaves and fishes to feed thousands—our God is still a God of miracles. But He requires us to prepare the room.
What area of your life is God asking you to clear space for Him to work? Is it in your relationships? Your finances? Your career? Maybe you’ve been gripping too tightly to control, when all God wants is your surrender.
When I heard Tauren Wells sing those simple words—“I will make room for You, to do whatever You want to”—it was like a divine reminder to trust God without hesitation.
Hearts and Hugs!

So powerful, I’m just reading this post at 4pm and these past few days I have been hearing I need to make room.
Love this Heather. It sure convicts and encourages me too. Thank you for sharing this.
good words and ideas Thanks keep it up
Very illuminating. I have been one that has been gripping too tightly, trying to force things to turn out the way that I want them to. I believe God is asking me to step back, release control, and prepare for what He alone can do. I’m thankful that God’s way is the best. I would come extremely short if things worked out like I wanted them to. Psalm 37:5 says to commit your way to the Lord; trust also in Him; and he shall bring it to pass. I am also reminded of what Proverbs 3:5,6 declares. When we trust and acknowledge God in everything, we grant Him access to lead us. He leads us in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake (Psalm 23:3). All-Wise Father, help us make room for your staggering goodness. Wonderful blog.
