This post is about how to spread the gospel online.
We now live in a digital world where people communicate and make a living online on websites or social media apps.
That’s why this post is relevant. It will give you a brief overview of spreading the gospel in the New Testament and how we can now spread the gospel through social media.
I seek to draw parallels and tie everything together in the post. And ultimately hope that you get fresh new ideas to share the gospel online.
Ready? So, let’s start with the book of Acts!
Sharing the gospel in the New Testament

The book of Acts is one of my favorite books in the bible. I did a deep dive last year during Passover, and I was really blessed and moved.
One of the most popular verses in Acts talks about the disciple’s commission:
Acts 1: 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
This verse shows that the disciples were to concentrate on discipleship as well as world evangelism.
So, be it in the marketplace or synagogue, they preached the gospel in virtually every city and every place.
Challenges in spreading the gospel
There were many challenges that the disciples faced during the spreading of the gospel. Paul recounts:
2 Corinthians 11:25-27 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
Even with all these challenges, Paul’s journeys spanned 7 years and thousands and thousands of miles! This was before planes and cars, so I can only imagine the dedication and passion Paul had!

Spreading the gospel like wildfire
Despite many challenges the disciples faced, i.e., imprisonment, difficult traveling conditions issues, etc., the gospel spread like wildfire.
One of the things that struck me is the zeal and how the disciples were on fire for God and spreading the gospel! It’s inspiring to read their dedication to spreading the gospel to the “uttermost part of the earth.”
Two single messages by Peter added 3000 and 5000 believers respectively into the kingdom of God.
Acts 2:41 (NIV) Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
Acts 4:4 (NIV) But many who heard the message believed; so the number of men who believed grew to about five thousand.
In those days we see pretty similar things as today, for example incorporating charitable acts in spreading the gospel (see Acts 2:45)

HOW TO SPREAD THE GOSPEL ONLINE

Online bible study or prayer groups
I have shared in the past that I am part of a zoom prayer group. The lady who organizes our meetings is an intercessor, and she is very good at inviting people into our group.
We start with testimonies, prayer requests, bible readings, then dive into prayer. At times, people in Kenya or all over the U.S can join.
I think this is an excellent way to share the gospel because you can connect with people all over the world.
Writing- Blogging or E-Books!
This is my way of sharing the gospel online. I love writing; therefore, this came more naturally to me.
Like all other ways of sharing the gospel, ensure that you remain authentic and stay true to what God has you to share. For me, I know I am called to share my faith and motivate, hence my tagline “Faith and Motivation.”
I follow other people who dive deep into apologetics, that’s what comes naturally to them, and they are gifted in that area.
Video: Start a YouTube channel or make devotional videos
I love to watch faith-filled believers on YouTube. They range from lifestyle, family bloggers to preachers!
The main thing is to be creative and select a niche that you can directly or indirectly witness your faith.
Launch a podcast
Podcasts are super necessary and helpful in this era of social media. When I used to commute to my previous job, I would pop in a podcast, and within an hour, I feel super nourished and refreshed!
Nowadays, podcasts are super easy to create; you don’t need a production team to start one. Check out Anchor that makes it easy to create and disseminate podcasts.
Messenger applications, i.e., WhatsApp
Messenger applications have quickly been a way to disseminate information. For example, WhatsApp has 2 billion active users online as of 2021.
I have received full sermons and testimonies via WhatsApp., mainly because this is a preferred way of communication in my birth country.
Social Networking Sites, i.e., Facebook or Instagram
I love when I see a picture on social media with a motivating sermon or testimony.
This is absolutely necessary because it can give someone some motivation when they need it the most!
Think about it, you may be the one God sends to uplift someone via social media when scrolling through social media.
You can:
🌸send personalized messages or notes to individuals
🌸Share on Facebook groups
🌸Share on Instagram or Facebook feeds or stories.
HOW TO SPREAD THE GOSPEL ONLINE: Key Takeaways
Ministry of Holy Spirit is central to sharing the gospel through social media
The ministry of the Holy Spirit is needed to spread the gospel adequately. Even as it spread like wildfire, we know that the disciples received power to be witnesses:
Acts 1: 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Kindness and Love of God
Remember to be kind and spread the love of God. I have heard people say that trolls or people against them can take over their comments or accuse them falsely. Let’s be mindful that we need to be kind and not give in to our flesh when faced with such a situation.
Be authentic in your pursuit
Yep, as I stated earlier, be authentic in your pursuit.
Tailor your message to your audience
If you are sharing the gospel with unbelievers, you may want to limit church-speak.
Paul is an excellent example of this because we see that he was scripture-heavy speaking to people in the synagogue who knew the word and altered his messages when he met other individuals.
Think before you post
Ultimately, we are ambassadors for Christ, and we should reflect God wherever we go.
1 Corinthians 5:20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
