What Content are You Consuming?

Luke 11:34 Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy,[a] your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy,[b] your body also is full of darkness.

Yesterday night I was sleeping and had a strange dream. Then I asked myself why I am not receiving frequent sensible dreams. I noticed that I have been watching more YouTube videos that are not beneficial to me. For example, ever since I gave birth, I realized that I watch too much celebrity news. Once I started thinking about this, I Immediately got a word of knowledge which I believe is Spirit-led.

Word of knowledge: Whatever content you consume through watching or reading can be empty calories. It does not necessarily harm you, but it takes the space where good spiritual calories should be. These good spiritual calories nourish your soul and help your day to day walk to fulfill your destiny. Before you consume any content out there, I suggest that you thoroughly evaluate. Ask yourself if the content will deny you time to learn about self-development or more importantly learn the word of God.

I think as Christians; we are more clear about what harmful content and we steer away from it. However, I believe that empty content that doesn’t add value is consumed often. It can easily creep and overtake the critical time we should be spending knowing God or improving ourselves to fulfill our destinies. The key is a balance. Balance your content consumption so that you can have a “balanced diet” that creates a good environment for us to nourish ourselves.

  1. Indeed, the key is balance! I love this post because I feel as if most of us struggle with this. It is so easy to get caught up on YouTube, Instagram, etc when we could be putting much more positive messages in our minds. Thanks for sharing!

  2. This is a very wise reminder. I enjoyed the word of knowledge you received and agree wholeheartedly. I also believe that these ’empty calorie’ topics are feeding us more than what it appears to.

The enemy of our soul is so very subtle. He knows exactly the points to ‘touch on’ with us to get us to receive the message he wants to send. More often than not – he will do this in ways we don’t blatantly see as harmful.

That’s why subliminal messages are so powerful. Think of the popcorn ad before the movie begins. How often do we suddenly think, “Oh man, popcorn sounds delicious right now!” This works in a lot of areas. Images of other’s lives can easily feed self-esteem issues without someone even realizing that’s what they’ve been ‘fed.’

Life (and relationships – including ours with the Lord) is much like a bank account. We get out of it what we put in to it. You can’t withdrawal money from a bank account unless there’s money there to be had. If we spend all of our time leaving ourselves emotionally bankrupt from empty consumption of social media, YouTube videos (etc), we will have nothing to pull from when the going gets rough.

I enjoyed this post. God bless you for sharing your heart. ♥
