Raising a child in a changing world (Hope during COVID-19!)

As a mother of three young children, the coronavirus pandemic made me think about the world… it’s changing. I asked myself, what kind of world will my children grow up in?

I started to think of how life was seemingly perfect back when I was younger until God reminded me of a significant event that happened in 1998 in Kenya, East Africa. My sisters and I were running around our dining table (we were very playful). Then suddenly, we heard a huge blast, and the ground shook. I wondered…was that an earthquake? What on earth was that? I held my sisters tight as we braced for perhaps another impact. These blasts that we heard were the August 7th, 1998 bombings that killed many. Three years later, 911 happened. Yet again, the world changed.

God told me that while the world is changing, I should remember that before he even formed us in our mother’s womb, he called us and equipped us. He highlighted several verses that I have inserted at the end of this post.

If you are a mother concerned about the rapidly changing world, I want to assure you that our kiddos were made for such a time as this! God set them apart for a purpose even before they were in your womb- that means before you carried them! Ok let me emphasize- Before you threw that gender reveal party or wrote that teary Facebook pregnancy announcement! (haha)

God delicately knitted our kiddos and equipped them with tools necessary for this ever-changing world. Our all-knowing, all-seeing, and omnipresent God fashioned them with everything they need! Yes! He equipped them for this very moment. For Coronavirus or otherwise!

Alas! God didn’t promise that everything will be smooth sailing, but he said in his infallible word that we should have peace. I believe we should have peace and assurance for our kiddos future even in the midst of Coronavirus- for God has already overcome the world! If our kiddos have a temptation, He will provide a way of escape!

So yes, our kiddos may be in a changing world but guess what- they have an UNCHANGING GOD! I pray that instead of buckling into the pressure of this ever-changing world, we should instead partner with God to raise our kiddos to realize their full potential in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jeremiah 1:5 NIV

Before I formed you in the womb, I knew[a] you
    before you were born I set you apart;

Psalm 139: 13

For you formed my inward parts;

you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.

1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Esther 4: 14 (AMP)

And who knows whether you have attained royalty for such a time as this [and for this very purpose]?”

Romans 5:20 KJV

But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

John 16:33

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

  1. Such a good point you have here- as mums we tend to worry and want our kids to live in an idyllic world but that is not reality. Our God is unchanging and equips our kids with what they need. We as parents need to do our part in teaching them about God and scripture so their foundation is on our solid Rock and nothing else.

  2. I couldn’t image if my daughter was younger, or my wife’s children too. We have adult children right now, but the younger ones right now. Stay strong and remember God is always with you. Keep on blogging for God too. You do a great job! I featured your blog on The A-Z of Christian Blogs.
