Christian Bloggers, Do You Want To Be Popular or Influential?

This post seeks to answer the question: “Do You Want To Be Popular or Influential?”

I follow Lisa Bevere on Instagram, and she recently asked the following question: Do you want to be popular or influential? 🤔

She mentioned that the Holy Spirit had asked her that very question when she was writing a book, and she stated she wants to be influential.

I looked up the synonyms for both popular and influential to see what Lisa Bevere was talking about. They are as follows:

Popular: common, ordinary, plain, and familiar.

Influential: strong, significant, inspiring, weighty, and leading.

Can you be popular and influential?

Lisa states it is hard to maintain popularity and be influential.

I think that is 💯 true.

When we choose to blog or operate with what is common; we sometimes dilute ourselves as Christians. Why? So that we can be more acceptable or “fit in” to societal norms.

We need to know that lots of societal norms clash with the word of God.

We are called to be SALT and LIGHT.

We cannot hide the word of God in us. It has to shine, unapologetically even if it is deemed unpopular.

Matthew 5:14-16 King James Version (KJV) Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

Influence will lead to overflow

David Tomberlin recently posted a powerful message titled, “Digging your well of faith and stepping into overflow.”

He talks of when digging a well, you do it by faith. You dig dig dig…. over, again and then some more.

Then finally, you hit the water source and water comes gushing in. Then you are in overflow.

The word messaged to me because sometimes, as a Christian Blogger, I feel that growth is not always tangible. You write, write, write, and you wonder if you are the salt and the light or INFLUENCE this world needs.

However, just like any ministry—by faith, “keep digging” or keep writing.

Be obedient to God and understand that there is promise and fulfillment at the end of it all.

Yes, it is the road less traveled, but it is indeed the RIGHT one!

Hugs! 🤗

  1. Reminds me of Jesus’ words, “Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets. “Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.

  2. Great post! This reminds me of bible study this morning. Jesus calls us to be the salt of the earth. To influence culture and make things better in the world. Salt is unbelievably cheap in the store but it works magic when it begins to do its job. True Christians are people of peace, but they have the power to change the world. God help us!

  3. A serious question not to take lightly. Influencing deeply is a journey with self, becoming deeper as people and skill in communicating. I love the well illustration…so true

  4. Yes. Reminds me of this quote by John Bunyan: “If my life is fruitless, it doesn’t matter who praises me,
and if my life is fruitful, it doesn’t matter who criticizes me.”
