How I landed my dream job (testimony)

Eight years ago, I made a bold move to pursue my dream job…and guess what? I landed it. I want to share my testimony in the hopes it will bless someone.

When I graduated from college, I started my first entry-level job. The pay wasn’t great. It wasn’t nerve-racking and it didn’t challenge me. It was difficult to imagine anything else.

At this point, I met a lady who ministered to me about the importance of writing one’s vision down. She referred to Habakuk 2:2-3 and stressed the importance of writing down my vision of my dream job. She stressed that if I don’t know what the job looks like, how will I know once I receive it?

I started meditating on that word and prayed. Then I finally got the courage to write down my vision behind my bible. I wrote seven things I wanted in my dream job. I was extremely specific. Here are some of the things I wrote that I wanted to highlight:

  1. Flexible job
  2. Work from home
  3. Salary (I was specific about my salary. I wrote a dollar amount)
  4. My manager had to be God-fearing

When I wrote the salary down, I was in DOUBT. I thought that it was not attainable. Looking back, I now know that was fear talking, and the devil was trying to get me to think small. When I completed the list, I found myself peeking and smiling every time I was glancing at my vision.

One year later, I met a friend of mine, and she mentioned that a company was hiring and that I would be a good fit. I went to my computer and applied for the job as I felt, “why not?”. Immediately the hiring manager for that company received my application; things went crazy fast. I went for an interview the next day!

Immediately after the interview, I received a call from the hiring manager, and she said they have decided to extend the offer to me. She mentioned the dollar amount, and I froze. That was the exact figure I wrote in my vision! I was shocked. She also mentioned about the flexibility and one work from home day. I was ecstatic. It was truly an out-of-body experience.

When I reviewed my vision, I realized ALL, but one thing was fulfilled: I wanted my manager to be God-fearing! It turns out I only got a God-fearing team lead. So I thought, “Team lead is close enough!” That wasn’t God’s plan though. He wanted to prove to me that I have to have faith and believe this concept and apply it to every aspect of my life. So literally, one week after I started my dream job, my team lead was promoted to become a manager! (Insert screams!!!)

It’s amazing because when I started my job, I thought that was going to be my forever job. I always thought that NOTHING could top this. Thankfully, God’s plans are exceedingly abundant, and above all, we could ask or imagine. (Ephesians 3:20-21). God started revealing to me that there is more, and when it is time, he will let me know. I feel my inner man just jumping right now as I ponder…Isn’t it great that GOD challenges us? Isn’t it great that his plans are for PROSPERITY and not for harm?

Quick lessons:

  1. I am glad that I Let Go and Let GOD. I realized that my dreams have always been small and God’s dreams for me are BIG and perfect
  2. I realize that my vision can take time to be fulfilled. It was fulfilled in God’s timing. In this case, it was one year. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE, my friends!
  3. TRUST the process.

This is a picture of me making my last drive after leaving my dream job that I now realize was only for a season. I worked at my “dream” job for almost seven years! God is now asking me to take yet another leap. So I have written yet another list according to Habakkuk 2:2-3. Honestly, the vision scares me, just like the one I wrote eight years ago…BUT I know that he did it before and he can do it again. I can’t wait to achieve my next dream job for my next season so that I can come here with yet another testimony!

PRAISE JESUS!

Habakkuk 2: 2-3

And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end, it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
