Hidden; not overlooked!

Zechariah 4:10 New Living Translation (NLT)

10 Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin.

Throughout my life, I noticed that I have always been behind the scenes-learning. In the beginning, I was comfortable with that but quickly got frustrated when I started seeing this theme repeat itself- over and over again. Throughout my career, my bosses always remarked that I had great potential, but they never allowed me to advance to be in senior leadership. I found that I had to sit back and train less qualified people to become my superiors. The fact that I managed to maintain my humility still was nothing but by the grace of God.

In my current job, I have been experiencing the same thing. I couldn’t figure things out until God told me that it is almost time to leave. Then he explained that the reason why I never got to move up is that he wanted me to be in that specific position to learn. He positioned me strategically to learn skills that I would not have otherwise learned if I was in a senior leadership position. He wanted me to have the flexibility to speak to parents of special needs children and to understand every aspect of being that parent. God also wanted me to free myself and take career development classes in public speaking etc. God also revealed to me that if I was promoted several times, I would have been confused about my destiny and would have possibly thought that my current job is perhaps where I need to be. I would have likely never wanted to leave to job to pursue my destiny!

Training, practice, and apprenticeship are all critical in destiny preparation. While you are in those seemingly stagnant, irrelevant, or insignificant phases or positions in life, you find yourself letting someone else take the lead as you learn. You are hidden and placed in a position to sharpen your skills. A regular person may dismiss you or overlook you, but I believe that is precisely what God wants. He wants to protect you while you learn. He doesn’t want you to prematurely walk or be unveiled into your destiny as you may be reckless with your position. If God wants you to handle a multi-million-dollar project to his glory, He may decide to let you manage a few thousands of dollars and build you towards handling a million and eventually multi-millions so that He can guarantee that you can be a good steward.

In the Bible, we see David, who was anointed as king at a tender age, was thrust into the hand of Saul. We are told of how he took care of sheep and played the harp for Saul. Imagine- a whole king, doing menial jobs as he learned how to run a kingdom. Indeed, we are never to despise our humble beginnings. Even when David’s popularity rose, he was in charge of only 600 men in Ziklag. God was slowly building him towards being a mighty King in charge of a mighty kingdom. With each responsibility and training, David proved his heart for God. He passed the test.

Fact: God hides valuable things in obscure places. You might feel that a particular phase in your life is entirely irrelevant or insignificant…but I guarantee you; you are being prepared to birth something great! When it is time, he will unveil you and launch you into the direction of your destiny. Be patient; his appointed time is coming. In the meantime, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and not in your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your path (towards your destiny) Proverbs 3: 5-6

Remember, you are neither overlooked nor forgotten- you are HIDDEN!
